The Carlsbad Flower Fields are an experience you won’t easily forget! I have never seen so many colorful flowers in one place. If you are in the area during spring, I would highly recommend a visit!

The fields are right off the highway and next to an outlet mall in Carlsbad and are very well-known, so don’t expect a visit of solitude, especially during super bloom. The best times to visit are March-May; that’s when the flowers will be in full bloom and at their best before harvest. The photos in this post are from my visit in early April of 2019.

The fields consist of ranunculus blooms organized by color. And they are gorgeous! You’ll find a lot of visitors doing photoshoots, selfies, and styled shoots simply for social media. This is an Instagramer’s paradise! When I visited, there were lots of teenagers and young millennials trying to snag the perfect shot of themselves ‘frolicking naturally’ amongst the fields. It’s a great place to people watch, haha!

They also offer much more than just the fields. There are gardens containing other plant species, a gift shop, lemonade and food stands, as well as tractor rides around the fields. The entrance fee is $18 for an adult and $16 for military or seniors. Children ages 3-10 are $9. You can purchase tickets prior to visiting online at (where you’ll also pay an online service fee) or buy them at the gate for the prices listed above. There is usually a line for tickets at the gate, but it moves quickly. Tractor rides will cost extra and are only useful if you don’t want to walk around the fields. Arrive as early as possible to get a parking spot, or you’ll be driving around waiting for someone to leave.

I visited by myself on a Friday afternoon and spent about on hour at the fields, and boy was it crowded. It is also common for schools to take field trips here. It’s a great activity if you’re in the area, and the outlet mall is right next store (the parking lots actually connect) so there’s lots to do in this area. Not to mention, you’re super close to the beach! The Flower Fields were a once in a lifetime experience for me and I’m glad I went (and took lots of photos)!
